Apollo Landscaping builds retaining walls to support garden beds and we can incorporate steps into these designs utilizing: Rocks, Allen Blocks, Bricks or wooden landscape ties.

Fences

Apollo Landscaping builds fences to suit your needs whether it be to segment part of your property for a vegetable garden or a dog run or even to separate your property from the neighbours. We are happy to assist you in your decision of what materials to use. For example: traditional wood fences, brick walls, simple chain link fences, constructing an Arbor, or planting a line of cedars to enhance your garden and privacy.

Patios

We can build a patio which will extend your living area to the outdoors, creating a great space to entertain, to relax or to watch the children play upon; building an area to enhance your BBQ / outdoor cooking and dining space. We are happy to assist you in your choice of materials: bricks, blocks, rocks or ties.

Paths

A path can create a designated area leading through your property to protect your lawn from traffic. A path can create a new energy or flow through your garden or a path can create a border to accent a garden feature. Paths can be constructed from paving bricks, stones or pebbles. We would be happy to assist you in finding the right style to enhance your garden and lifestyle.

Irrigation Sprinkler system Start-ups

When starting up your irrigation system in the spring, we can check for any leaks or breakages that may have occurred during the winter and book these in for repair/ replacement. We check the clock and ensure that your system is running to optimize watering times for a healthy lawn.

Irrigation Sprinkler system Blow-outs

A blowing out of your underground sprinkler system is important in the late Autumn (before the ground freezes) in order to avoid major damage which would occur from water freezing in the pipes. We are able to come to your property and blow-out all of the irrigation zones which will minimize damage from freezing temperatures.

Stump Grinding

Our stump grinder can remove an unsightly stump from your property, ripping it apart and grinding up the wood which can be mulched or removed. We would be happy to assist you in creating a new garden area or re-grassing the area to make the most of your yard.

Core Aeration

Soil must have adequate water, air and nutrients available. Soils that are hard and compacted stop root growth, which prevents the grass plants from developing the deep root system to keep your lawn healthy through periods of stress.

Mechanical core aeration will help reduce any excess thatch as well as assist in the retention of water, allowing the water to penetrate the lawn to the roots. This will promote development to produce a strong root system aiding your lawn to withstand drought, snow cover, disease and insects.

The core aeration equipment removes plugs of soil from the lawn. The soil plugs left behind contain micro-organisms which act to break down the thatch faster and make a better growing medium for your lawn. These plugs will propagate back into the lawn. Adding a top dressing to the lawn at this stage is extremely beneficial as the lawn has been opened up to absorb the extra nutrients from this high grade soil as well as the air and sunshine penetrating the lawn.

Aeration may be used one or two times each season. It is usually recommended for the Spring and in the Fall when soil is moist.

De-Thatching

Our de-thatching machine will rake-out the dead grass and thatch from the lawn (it’s like pruning your lawn) to remove the parts that are blocking energy from the sun and water from penetrating to the soil to fee healthy roots. De-thatching is mostly recommended in the Spring (when the grass is coming out of dormancy) to give the lawn a boost in receiving light and moisture for a greener lawn.

Mowing

Keeping your lawn mowed weekly (during the growing season which is weather dependent and usually mid-March until mid-November). We keep our blades sharp to ensure a clean cut of the lawn which greatly reduces the risk of insect or herbicidal infestations. Your mowing service includes trimming of the lawn edges and blowing off cuttings that may have dispersed onto patios or driveways. This service will aid in keeping your lawn looking its’ best all year round.

Fertilizers and Weed Treatments

Our fertilizer treatments are fitted to your lawn’s needs. These are usually packaged with the mowing services (see packages). We prefer to utilize “greener” products and are able to offer you organic alternatives to chemical fertilizers. Some lawns may require more intensive treatments for weeds or insect infestations. Top Dressing

Applying a premium top dressing to your lawn is especially beneficial (in some cases) following core-aeration of the lawn. However, if the root system is in good condition, the top dressing can be applied at any time to give the lawn a completely organic fertilizer treatment. This is safe for your lawn, pets and children as well as for the environment. Applying top dressing to the lawn is like giving it a vitamin boost of enzymes to assist with healthy growth.

Plant Fertilizers

We have a variety of fertilizers to assist plants in whatever the circumstances such as in high acidic/low alkaline soil situations, start-up fertilizers for new plants we have installed or fertilizers for certain varieties of plants such as roses. If you would like us to, we are happy to inform you if there is a need to intervene or assist certain plants on your property.

Laying Turf / Removing Sod

A lawn really enhances the look and, of course, the feel of a garden. Having a yard to be in and enjoy helps to make your house a home. Whether it is an entire lawn or just some patches that need some T.L.C. we can get the job done right.

Mulching

Applying mulch to a garden has so many benefits. The mulch can provide protection to plants and especially roots from summer sun and winter ice. The mulch assists with the natural breaking down of organic matter to create nutrients for healthy growth of plants. Not only is it healthy for your plants but it looks great. There are different types of mulch in varying colors to enhance any garden.

Clean-Ups

Apollo Landscaping offers yard and garden clean-ups at any time of year but here is an outline of the main ones we do:

Spring

As your garden wakens in the spring, the plants are reaching out to the energy of the sun in order to rejuvenate their growth. Winter damages the tips of some of the plants/branches and thus will hinder healthy growth. Pruning at this time is extremely beneficial. Raking and working through the soil to allow air to penetrate to the plants will assist in keeping the soil healthy and reduce the risk of spreading mold (following snow cover). This is the time to care for the plants in your yard and help them to send healthy shoots out. Spring is the optimum time for de-thatching your lawn as well. Depending on the soil type and also on the condition of the lawn it may also be beneficial to have the core aeration done at this time.

Summer

The Summer (or "mid-season") clean-up is helpful in most yards to keep healthy growth going through the heat – a light pruning and dead-heading of plants will keep the garden looking its best all year round. Some plants require ongoing pruning throughout the year and it is beneficial to do so while other plants may go into shock if pruned at the wrong time of year so we will be happy to help you to choose which types of plants we clean-up at this time of year. This is a great time of year to install mulch to the garden beds to protect plants from sun damage.

Fall

Cleaning out garden beds is important to prepare them for the Winter snow cover and the dormant period of plants. Having the beds clear will allow the snow to melt and rejuvenate your garden in the early Spring (assisting with the natural composting process by removing the unhealthy or dead growth and by removing excess leaves). This is the time of year that it is particularly beneficial to have core aeration performed upon your lawn and to apply top dressing.
